Mandola's Deli

MY REVIEW: Their homemade mild italian sausage is simply perfect whether in a poboy or on spaghetti. And you can buy it fresh to bring home to cook. Anytime I grill anything for guests I throw on a few links and it is always the hit of the meal.

MY REVIEW: Me and two other chicks from work went to Mandola's yesterday. They had never been there. One got spaghetti, the other lasagna. I THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA LICK THEIR PLATES TO GET THE LAST OF THAT MARINARA SAUCE! It was soooo good. I had a meatball sandwich and it was super good. It is very affordable, and it is a Houston Cultural Experience. Parking is kinda tight but where there's a will there's a way. Try it....... they probably won't be there forever and then you are gonna be sorry you didn't go!

MY REVIEW: I've fallen in love with this little deli... the atmosphere is very ITALIAN-FAMILY... the meatball sandwiches have such a wonderful mixture of Italian seasonings, it makes my mouth water just to think about 'em! Frank Mandola is the best... his compassion for his little restaurant comes through his JOYOUS and CARING personality!

MY REVIEW: A blue collar restaurant that sees CEOs seated among the students and workers. Seating is bare tables and straight chairs. Nothing fancy. One of the employees brings your food order to your table. The food smells are just fine as they waft from the kitchen just behind the order counter. The food itself is simple Italian cuisine but absolutely delicious. My favorite is their famous PoBoys which are simply delicious. Frank Mandola is usually behind the counter and ready to take your order with a friendly smile.
Downside: be sure to get there early as the lunch crowd usually fills the small parking lot.
I like Mandolas a lot and highly recommend it.

MY REVIEW: I hoped but didn't expect the quality of an Italian deli from the northeast. It wasn't. The lasagne was okay, the garlic bread was just oily and crispy but barely a whiff of garlic and probably not fresh garlic. The atmosphere is great: Two colors in the whole place, red and ancient yellow. Can't say it was worth the trip. I was hoping for more from the Mandola's name, and was sad to see the Gulf Freeway B*lue Oyster grill leave.

MY REVIEW: I've only gone once and I'm planning on going back many times -- their sandwiches are fabulous and it makes sense -- it's next to a bread store, which happens to be close to a bread factory also. Just driving by the area filled with fresh bread aroma has always made me wonder whether I should try the place or not and I'm totally thankful that I did. I recommend the chicken sandwich with mushrooms and cheese -- but I've also heard that the meatball sandwich is also one of the best in Houston (says a friend of mine who adores them). The atmosphere looks like a bbq joint, which it is not. It's more of a small italian deli in the East End. Their walls shows their pride in the nearby University of Houston and it's been active in the Italian Festival. I recommend this place to anyone in the area -- it's a treat that cannot be bypassed. The prices are similar to S*ubway's but the sandwiches are a whole lot better -- there's also pasta, dessert, stuffed artichokes, and few other italian specialities.

MY REVIEW: Located off the beaten path. Sees a mixture of blue and white collar works as well as UH students. What it lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in quality, inexpense food and personal service. Sanwiches are just right and add a deviled egg and a slice of apple pie and your set!
