MY REVIEW: We love the atmosphere, the menu, food and service. Every now and then they get it wrong, but management is good at correcting the problem and compensating on the bill. Prices are getting up there. Bar drinks are great and done by pros. Great martinis, though expensive. We haven 't had anything there that we don't like, but love the filet mignon, fries and acorn squash. The salads are awesome also.
There is always a wait during more popular lunch and dinner times, so be flexible. We like to go later on Saturdays and usually close the place down. But we get in right away and receive excellent attention. My husband does wish they would carry domestic beers. (Not used to not being able to get a Bud at an American-style restaurant!)

MY REVIEW: In an establishment like Houston's, some decorum should be maintained. What problem is it taking off a hat at the table? And yes, I feel that the elderly gentleman should have been asked to remove his cap as well. He should have known better. Unless you've got a nasty skin infection or something, take your cap off!!

MY REVIEW: "No Caps Allowed"
This part of the review has nothing to do with food. I find it amusing when the host asked my husband to remove his cap. We were told that we're not allowed to wear caps in the restaurant. However, you can wear caps at the bar area. What kind of policy is that? Then, you see everyone wearing casual shorts, slippers, and sneakers inside the restaurant. If you're going to enforce a dress code, please make sure you include everything that is categorized as "casual". A table across from us, was an elderly wearing a cap, but he was excused from removing his because he was an elderly. When did age have anything to do with dress codes? Plus, my husband wasn't wearing one of those baseball logo cap. His is a trendy name brand cap that is being worn for fashionable reasons. This totally ruined our appetite.

MY REVIEW: I love this restaurant!!!!!My son goes to Rice and we have a dear friend living in Houston so everytime we move in or out of the Rice area, we all go to Houstons. My favorite is the salad--cobb or grilled chicken, the guys like the steak-which you can pick out (but I think this concept is gross) Lighting is good, staff is friendly and prices --while high--appear in keeping with local competition for similar. Seriously, this is not a barbeque restaurant.

MY REVIEW: I love the "cobb" salad ..and the cheese toast. Their ice tea is always fresh and good, so many places, the tea tastes rancid, but I would like to be able to get a "go cup." Pricey..I wish there was a location in the Woodlands/spring area

MY REVIEW: Today was my first visited to this restaurant chain. My experience left much to be desired. My husband order a bacon cheeseburger and I ordered a salad. While the waiter was taking our order he asked my husband if he wanted mustard, ketchup & mayo with his burger to which my husband said yes to all. The burger was deliver minus the requested condiments. Since no one bothered to check if everything was alright, we had to flag down one of the hostesses for the requested condiments. She brought the wrong mustard, but my husband decided not to bother anyone over it. It was than that he realized the burger did not have the bacon. Once again, we had to flag someone down to correct this problem. Needless to say, I was just about finished my salad when the burger arrived for the second time - 20 minutes later. To our amazement, it was the same burger as before . . . now over cooked. . . with a piece of raw bacon on it and drowned in cheese. When our waiter finally came to check on us, my husband gave him the burger and requested it be removed from the bill.
The most difficult part to understand is that during this adventure, no one from management came by to see what the problem was. I would think that a restaurant that would charge $14 for a burger, that is too small to fit properly in the bun, would be concerned when customers are not satisfied.
Like many establishments, it appears they have more business than they care to handle and are not concerned with repeat customers or customer satisfaction.
This is one customer that will never return as I prefer to spend my hard earned monies in establishments that appreciate the business.

MY REVIEW: The service was outstanding, as far was waitresses were concerned. They didn't call us "guys" which is a plus in our book.
The food was eye-poppingly expensive (24 dollar pork chop) but for that price, it should have tasted like heaven, and it definitely did not. It was the blandest pork chop I ever tried, and I thought that was impossible to do: to screw up a pork chop.
For this amount of money, plenty of better places around.

MY REVIEW: The crispy chicken salad and the honey mustard dressing are delicious. Atmosphere is lively and friendly. Only negative for me is they have no light domestic beer ( no bud, coors ,miller, micholob ) of any kind, bottled or draft. So I am forced to opt for water with my meal. Strange that they can't just offer one of these on either draft or bottles....it won't stop me from going there, just not as often since I enjoy a beer with my meal.

MY REVIEW: Houston's is my favorite restaurant! My favorite entree is the grilled chicken salad, it is the bast tasting salad I have ever had. The price has gone up on the salad a lot since I have been going there, but it is worth it. My boyfriend gets the Hawaiian Ribeye, which I have tried and it is a very flavorful, good steak. The baby back ribs are also very good. For an appetizer the grilled salmon is very good. Overall it has gotten pricey over the years, but if you are willing to pay more for a great meal it is so worth it. The only weak points is that the size of the grilled chicken salad isn't always consistant. I am a big fan of bleu cheese dressing, and I ask for some on the side for my salad because it is the best homeade dressing I have ever tried. The atmosphere is fun, and the waiters are very friendly.

MY REVIEW: We have been dining at Houston's for at least 25 years. It is always a real treat. They now have a lot faster seating, and their newly remodeled bar is really fun - the banquette seating is cozy.
We have many favorites, but the appetizers, the salads, prime ribs, all their sandwiches, imaginative vegetables and soups(always something different)are reliable and delicious. We have had large family groups there, and everyone was happy with the food.

MY REVIEW: Over the past 20 years, most times a trip to the "Big H" included dining here. No complaints about the Tenderloin or the Spinach/Artichoke dip. Love the Honey Mustard chicken salad. Sad to learn however that they no longer have a blender to make my favorite Kahlua Freeze after dinner drink. They claim it is too loud to use. I doubt the blender could be heard over the crowd noise.

MY REVIEW: Houston's is still one the best places to eat a casual meal on the west side of Houston. Service is great, and food is consistently good. Prices are getting up there with "The P*alm", but less that F*uad's. The main thing is that it is casual, and now, they take reservations. Always call ahead, and you will be Happy. I go every week.

MY REVIEW: OK don't listen to the others. If you choose right it is great. You just have to know what to order. The ribs were expensive but like no othre ribs in town. Service is fine. Everytime I have been here it has been great always the same. It is crowded, expecially at night so a reservation will be helpful. Last time we made that mistake and had to wait 45 min. Still it is packed because it is so good.
Dessert- delightful! The dessert menu at first does not look like anything special. A 5 nut brownie. Just sounded like a brownie but no way wrong! This is no ordanary brownie. The chocolate and nut flavors were NOT too overwhelming. It was very light and almost fluffy yet still fugy. It had a wonderful creamy, custard, and almost whipped cream sauce. It tasted like fresh whipped cream but had the texture of melted ice cream. MUST TRY THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY.
Over all great, make reservation, and only for special time or once and awhile. WILL BE RETURNING!!!!!!!!!

MY REVIEW: I've been eating at Houston's for 25 years and I never thought I'd be writing a poor review, but after three bad experiences in less than 6 months, I feel it is warranted. From no ice in the water (without asking) to overcooked rotisserie chicken, to a major flub last night when I said no eggs in the traditional salad and not only were there eggs in it, they brought extra eggs on the side! Service was slow and as others have mentioned, their prices are now over the top. I think it's really sad that they've run a consistently good restaurant into the ground. I suspect it's corporate rather than local management. To their credit, they don't charge you for what they screw up on but they need to focus on getting it right rather than compensating you when they get it wrong.

MY REVIEW: LOVE Houston's! They have the best French Dip and Spinach/Artichoke dip in the world! I also love the ribs and the steak they serve. Really really great hamburger although with so many yummy choices it's hard to settle on a hamburger when I can have other yummy choices. I've never had a bad meal here. I've only had one friend (who is really really picky) not enjoy this place- he ordered the steak and was upset that it had sauce on it. They also have great wine and good mixed drinks. I also like that you can eat at the bar if you are by yourself or don't want to wait for a table. It really is a great medium priced restaurant. I haven't been there for a few months and I am going through withdrawls- plan to go this weekend.

MY REVIEW: My friend and I went to Houston's on Kirby on June 16th. We had some really good wine and food. What I really wanted to shout out about was that the person that drives the cart outside to bring you to the door or to your car was amazing. I happened to leave my lights on and of course my battery was dead when I got back to me car. He drove up in his buggy and offered to help. He got my car back up and running and then would not accept any cash at all. I was so taken with the fact that there still some really some nice helpful people there. I really appreciated the help and wanted to let everyone know that Houston's has great people working for them!!

MY REVIEW: I say 1 visit because I had not been to Houstons in at least 10 years.Prices were shocking. For a chicken sandwhich,a chicken salad and 1 tea with tip the bill was $35.00.My salad was ok,nothing special B-rnabys is far better and grander.Chicken sandwhich was unremarkable save the price. The tea was small. When I plain to spend that much money on a meal,I would go to someplace else. They have a French dip sandwhich for $17.00! Yikes!!!!

MY REVIEW: Service was great. We already knew they don't take reservations or call-aheads, and that they cant fit 10 people to a table. As soon as we got there...they sat us down right away (split 6 and 4) and they even got us side by side booths.
Had the spinach dip, that was good. I had the Hawaiian Ribeye, it was really good (but not the best speak i've had). My wife had the rotisserie chicken with dirty rice. Wow...the chicken was really good, esp the crispy skin. The dirty rice is the best i've tried thus far.
Overall, great food, great service.

MY REVIEW: Houston's has always been one of my favorite casual dining spots. Although it is "pricey", it is always crowded and the food is first rate. They have a habit of making changes even to their most popular items; a few years ago they took their very popular chicken fingers off the menu (but you can continue to get them if you know to ask). Yesterday I was shocked to be told by my server that they have taken decaf coffee off the menu; they now only serve regular coffee. When I inquired why, I was told it was a management decision at the corporate level. The is patently absurd and will cause me to stop ordering dessert even though I think their 5 nut brownie is one of the best around.

MY REVIEW: Six of us arrived at the restaurant and were seated immediately at 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday night after being told there were six "big" parties in front of us. For that we were grateful. After that it went downhill. My family of three ordered two salads and one hamburger for $45.00. The salads had a very small amount of lettuce, no other vegetable that I can recall, one or two croutons, and three pieces of fried chicken. These cost $12.00 each and we were hungary an hour later. The hamburger was $10.00 and it was not bad, just overpriced. We will not return to this restaurant because I don't like to feel cheated when I purchase something. I had a salad today for dinner at C*heesecake Factory that was larger and definitely better for $6.95. I recall "Houston's" as being one of my favorite places to eat several years ago, but not anymore. We won't be going back.

MY REVIEW: i live in the spring, woodlands area but I drive in, sometimes on Sunday just to eat at Houston's. I so wish they would open one in my end of town. I love the chicken (fried) salad but it seems lately, I can't find the avocado's ! I want more avocadoes. I love the burgers, the fries and that steak sandwich on the grilled, buttery toast.. love that too!
I'm never disappointed..I so miss that cheese toast/bread they use to serve for so long! why on Earth would they quit serving something everybody loved??

MY REVIEW: Went recently for lunch as we normally do (a group of us from the office). Usually, we arrive around 12:30, and use the valet, because the lot is FULL. Got there - NO VALET. After parking across the street at HEB, and surviving the traffic on Fountainview, stagger in sweating. Hostess inside says the valet guys are no longer there. Whatever. Finally sit - spinach dip and ribeye fabulous as always. ***Be warned, parking is HELL. Plan for some distance walking from your car.***
