MY REVIEW: My guy organized a brunch for my birthday at Brenner's and it was fantastic. We were a group of 15 and were seated with a view of the garden. The restaurant is beautiful and the setting is nice. The service was very attentive, though not intrusive. We were a loud bunch but the room was almost private and very nice. We lingered over three hours! Great for couples or groups. champagne bellinis!!! Started with yummy bread and little muffins and scones. crabcake..delicious, lobster bisque..creamy. crab salad and a delicious lobster asparagus and brie omelette...the burger...the filet and eggs...everyone enjoyed their food. After we all stuffed ourselves we walked down to the bayou. Cute. I'll definately be back and would recommend.

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend and I dined at Brenner's for his birthday and it was a great experience all-around with intimate, personalized service, DELICIOUS food and nice ambience. Upon our arrival, the hostess and our waitress wished him a happy birthday. Service was attentive but not over the top. We ordered a bottle of wine (the sommelier seemed very knowledgeable) and started with the crab cake appetizer which was the best I've ever had; almost purely lump crab meat with a great delicate crust. Our steaks were succulent and nicely seasoned, perfectly cooked. We split the asparagus and au gratin potato sides and had plenty left over to take home. The Au gratin potatoes were amazingly creamy and rich.

For dessert we shared the creme brulee which was also delicious: not too much custard and a perfectly caramelized top. I'd definitely recommend Brenner's, but make reservations.

MY REVIEW: My fiance brought me here for a wonderful birthday dinner. Upon arriving, I was wished a Happy Birthday by the hostess and seated at a great table next to the window overlooking beautiful gardens/ponds. The waiter greeted me with a long stem red rose. Even though the resturant was full, we had very attentive waitstaff. Crab cakes are the best we've ever had. Filet was perfect. To finish it off, we had the creme brule. This is worth saving room for! The ambiance was nice, and I enjoyed a quiet dinner. I would definietley recommend it to anyone looking for great food and nice atmosphere.

MY REVIEW: My 15 year old son and I celebrated his birthday w/ a fabulous dinner at Brenner's last evening. Everything from making the reservations to putting a subtle candle in his dessert was perfect.

I read most of the reviews here and on AOL City Search searching for that perfect place. T*aste of Texas mixed right wing politics in w/ dinner so that was out. The others were either too pretentious or had too many bad reviews. We wanted to feel very welcome, enjoy great food, and be left alone. Brenner's definitely fit the bill on all counts.

When I called for reservations the very friendly woman suggested we arrive at 7:15 for a window seat. We arrived twenty minutes late but our window table was waiting. Our waiter Ron was friendly and professional, but not annoyingly cloying. A real professional.

We had shrimp and crab cocktail appetizers. Both were good. Our 16 oz. rib eye and strip steaks were superb. The creamed spinach was excellent and the German potatoes so so. Our bread was excellent too. We refreshed it at least three times.

We both had peach cobbler w/ ice cream for dessert. Again, a winner. So were my two bloody marys.

The valet, who teaches elementary school, was good too. The regular lot was full so he had to park our car in an adjacent lot.

The ambiance at Brenner's was fine. The small rustic dining room was packed yet we could still talk. No annoying music either. The garden adjacent to the dining room-- w/ a brook and small waterfalls -- is a welcome and soothing anachronism considering it is next to the dusty Katy Freeway.

The bill came to $150 or so. We definitely got our moneys worth, and more.

The crowd was very mixed. Couples, groups, young adults, and one 15 year old. Brenner's is definitely teen friendly.

And my son really appreciated the low key birthday candle. He'd cringe at singing happy birthday -- as I assume the other guests would too. They have private rooms for those situations.

MY REVIEW: Best crab cake in town...hands down. We eat out alot and this is our favorite restaurant. Eric, the manager, always does a great job in making you feel extra special! Great place for a special occasion or just a night out with your significant other. Request to eat in the main dining room by the window or fire place. I have had almost everything on the menu and if you are not in the mood for steak try snapper or fried chicken (the best). In fact, we pick up the fried chicken for Sunday dinner frequently. YUMMY! If the weather is nice get an outside table! Good stuff. Can't say enough about it!

MY REVIEW: My boyfriend took me to Brenner's for my birthday and it was prehaps the best meal I have ever had in Houston, and I eat out a lot. To start, the restaurant is beautiful, decorated with dark woods and white tablecloths. We were seated with a view of the patio, and it was just lovely. Our waiter was knowledgable and friendly, and wished me a happy birthday as soon as we arrived. The food...WOW! The spinach and artichoke dip is by far the best in the city. We're always on the lookout for the best in the city..and well, we found it! You MUST try it. I ordered the 12 oz lobster tail, which was obviously huge, and delicious. My boyfriend had a bone-in ribeye which was huge and he said was wonderful. We split an order of creamed spinach which was even too large for the two of us to share.

For dessert we shared the Hazelnut Cheesecake with chocolate sauce, which was out of this world! We had half of it leftover! They ever brought us two glasses of dessert wine so we could sample and see which we preferred with the cheesecake.

We lingered, enjoyed our bottle of fabulous cabernet that we can only find in a couple of places in the city.

Brenner's is a class act establishment. If you want a special occasion place with food that's simple, yet delicious, this is the place to go. You certainly won't leave disappointed, or hungry!

MY REVIEW: We celebrated a double birthday and we were not happy about our service at all. There was a large table of about 10 next to us. They seemed more important than us to our servers. Our plates stayed on our table for a long time without being removed and we were not even asked if we wanted deserts. The steaks were okay not great like we were used to. Our bill was over $300 for 4 people which is normal but we will not be back to try again until reviews sound better.

MY REVIEW: My husband took me here for a nice evening out. I thought it was cozy, especially sitting next to the fireplace. The food however, leaves much to be desired. Our steaks were average and the sides were microwaved. We spent more at this place than we did at the B*istro Moderne and they are a five star restaurant. I think they need to update the sides (actually cook them. I would not go again.

MY REVIEW: I have recently started eating at Brenner's for my lunches and occasional dinners. I find the service to be well executed, and the food to always be above average. The patio with ponds and waterfalls should be included in your plans for seating as they are most enjoyable. I find their crab cake appetizer to be the best in town and order it often. I like sitting in the bar to have lunch if possible since it is always much quieter than the main dining room and allows you to unwind from work. Their prices are reasonable for the quality of food they serve. This is fine dining and the restaurant has maintained it's personal touch even after being purchased by the Landry's corporation. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner and I do suggest reservations to assure prompt seating during busy periods.

MY REVIEW: I recently went to Brenner's for my birthday dinner. It was my first visit there. Overall, it was a very nice experience. I had the ribeye, and a caesar salad. Both were excellent. The Caesar was one of the best I've had. I also tried some of the crab cakes, which was the best thing I had that night. The only weak points were the side dishes. I know they are trying to keep tradition alive, and thats fine, but they do need to be updated. We had the german potatoes and the asparagus. Both were average. Overall, I would recommend Brenner's to anyone.

MY REVIEW: I hadn't eaten at Brenner's for many years, and have now eaten there twice in as many weeks. My latest visit was with 80 friends and family in the private dining building celebrating my 25th anniversary. I could rave on every aspect of the experience, but I think the fact that nearly all my guests took the time to tell me how truly wonderful the food, service and ambiance were speaks volumes. I personally oredered the Filet, but had several bites of the Snapper topped with lump crab meat. Now I don't know what to get when I go back, as both were fantastic.

MY REVIEW: We live nearby but had never tried this location since we moved in--until Valentine's Day this year. The food was wonderful. My filet mignon was done perfectly--medium (which is not always the case everywhere). The ambiance and decor were heavenly. It made such a special, memorable evening. The garden view was gorgeous and the waiter was attentive.

Then we decided to go back. Both of our steaks were tough and overcooked. My husband sent his back and would have liked to send it back a second time but did not have the nerve. My filet was tough and overcooked too--it was not very pleasant but I did not send it back. I was too hungry to wait for another steak. Our waiter acted like we were demanding. We don't know which time was the fluke but it was very expensive both times. We considered going again recently but could not bring ourselves to. We wanted to re-experience our first visit, but I am not sure if we will ever visit there again.

MY REVIEW: Gary, did you go to the same Brennar's I went to? This place has been one of the best steak places for a long time and still is by far my favorite restaurant around!!!

My wife took me here for my 30th birthday and I was NOT disappointed. My parents lived in Houston in the early 80's and I remember hearing about this place and how wonderful it was.

Steak is some of the best I’ve ever had (tender and just right - AWESOME flavor). Au Gratin potatoes are unbelievable!!! Excellent service as well (you’re gonna be treated very well)! Large portions and great atmosphere. VERY ROMANTIC. Overall, EXCELLENT restaurant!!

MY REVIEW: You can always tell when a Bartender does not want to be at work, and it was quite obvious on Christmas eve. My Daughter and I have a standing date on that night, and decided to try out Brenner's since it is close to our house.

The food was mediocre, we only had appetizers and sides: The Au Gratin potatoes were good, The spinach dip was very unimpressive, the bisque was cold, the onion soup salty. The crab cake was tasty.

The service was some of the worst I have ever experienced in Houston. The Bartenders were rude, short with customers and certainly made it known that they should have not been scheduled for this particular shift. Pretty sad for a locally owned business. I will take Brenner's off my Christmas eve dining option, as well as any other night of the year.

MY REVIEW: What an amazing place!!! Shawn was our waiter for the night and everything he guided us to was so amazing, he knows his stuff!! My husband had the pepper crusted rib eye, the wonderful crab cake, which he says there is none anywhere better, the house salad with the wonderful and different blue cheese dressing. I had the chicken Lorene, which is one of the best chicken dishes, I have ever put into my mouth and, I do mean that!! It was served with some wonderful pasta. How could we not try the amazing german potatoes? They are absolutely divine, I can see why they have been on the menu all of this time!! I wanted to try the apple dessert but, Shawn told us about the bread pudding that is made out of bagles and, one taste of it and we were in heaven, we were literally, trying to eat faster, so we could get some more!! And, I can't forget the dark raisin bread. Also, the beautiful grounds are just so spellbounding and breathtaking!!! We will be going back soon. Can't wait!!

MY REVIEW: Still one of the best restaurants in the world. And with the demise of some of Houston's old standards like the C*onfederate House and the Green P*arrot it is gratifying that this Houston tradition continues. While the menu has been upgraded and expanded under new ownership, which is very appealing, the old classics are still there the filet mignon, the rib-eye and the red snapper. The steaks are simply the finest anywhere and Mrs. Brenner's famous apple strudel.

In the early days, there was no printed menu and the waitresses just told it to you. I started coming here in 1958 at the age of 8 years old. As a young child, I would get unsettled at the table and Herman built the bridge across the water to the little island, so I could go out and play. Over the years, he added the other elements--the well and the backdrop buildings. All of this offers a fine backdrop to a really great meal. Today, the atomosphere is still the same--relaxing and attentive service. I always expect to see Herman walking around checking on things in his quiet unobstrustive manner. I think he must be still there as the atmosphere and service has not changed. Simply the best steaks on earth. The restaurant achieves what few do--simply the best at what it does--it does not try to be something only to fall short of the really great restaurants in the world. This is a true old Houston experience and unforgettable.

MY REVIEW: We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Brenner's...our first visit since the re-opening. It was great. The food was outstanding and prepared just as requested. How nice to see a restaurant with crisp white linens for the table...attentive wait staff dressed in neat black & white (not cutoffs and t-shirts)...warm woods and beautiful outdoor views; truly a return to the 'old days' of fine dining. Our only complaint was that some of the other patrons did not know how to behave/talk in such a setting....they must have felt that they were in one of the 'noisy caverns' found elsewhere in the city. There were quite a few business-dinner groups present...maybe that explains it.

One other nice detail...my husband had mentioned it was our anniversary when he made our reservations. Everyone from the hostess who seated us, the waiter and his assistant, and Eric, the manager, wished us a "Happy Anniversary". Made us feel very special. We'll definitely be back!

MY REVIEW: Dinner with guests this Monday could not have been better with a balance of comfortable decor, garden view, great company and pleasant service. The waite staff was very personable with attention to details and knowledgeable about the wine and food. A tasty Zinfandel was recommended. It was refreshing not to have the waiter recommend only high end wines to run up the tab and tip. We had starters of Foie Gras, Beef Steak Tomatoes and Crab Cakes followed by steaks and lobster with sides of mushrooms, cream spinach and German potatoes topped off by Strawberry Romanoff, Chocolate cake, Apple Strudel and Crème Brulee. The evening was memorable. For those who are looking for a high end dinning experience, I would highly recommend Brenner’s for dinner, drinks and desserts.

MY REVIEW: Last week we had a dinner for 25 at Brenner's and had a fantastic time. The service was great with a fine selection of wines by Kim. Eric and Sebastian made sure that the menu was appropriate for our event with everything being tasty beginning with hors d'oeuvres through a delicious multicourse meal complimented by a wonderful chef's medley of desserts. Rave reviews were received from my guests.

MY REVIEW: My wife and I went for dinner this past weekend and had an absolutely wonderful time. We got there about 30 minutes early and had a drink at the bar. Within 5-10 minutes they had a table ready for us. Based on suggestions here, we tried the crab cake and it lived up to its billing. My wife also had the Caeser Salad and I tried the Lobster Bisque. Although both were good, it was just too much food before our entrees arrived.

I had the 16 oz Ribeye and she had the Filet and both were fantastic and perfectly prepared. The waitstaff was accomodating without being intrusive and kept our glasses full. The sommelier decanted our wine and spent several minutes discussing our choice with us. When she stopped by later to check on us, she accidentally dropped her towel on the table - partially landing on the potatoes au gratin. Neither my wife nor I minded and told her it was not a big deal. She offered to get a new order but we declined. However, she later brought us a free round of desert wine and suggested a wonderful dessert to go with the wine - the chocolate pecan ball. The dessert was excellent. The potatoes were very good, but not as good as those at P*appas Bros.

The overall atmosphere was extremely nice and the outside "setting" was truly unique and added to the overall experience. Although this was an expense account dinner I will definitely go back on my own dime. With a couple of drinks at the bar, a moderately priced bottle of wine, and more food than we could eat, the total price after tip was around $230. Overall, both my wife and I had an outstanding evening at a great restaurant.

MY REVIEW: We live close to this restaurant and have seen millions of cars there, so we were so excited to finally go. It was absolutely perfect. I had the crab cakes for an appetizer - heavenly!!! Then the wedge salad with roquefort dressing- stupendous..I ate every last bite. I ordered the special which was a 10 oz. filet with crab and sauce on top. It was WONDERFUL-I commended the chef as this was the best steak I'd ever eaten. I ordered it medium, which is always difficult for restaurants to master, but they did. I cannot wait to go back. It is a special place, and very quaint and romantic. Impress a date or a friend and take them there. I love fine dining, this is now my favorite. Food was fabulous many times over. The service was incredible.

MY REVIEW: Although this restaurant had great service and decent food, it was definitely not worth the high premium that came with it. The ambience was nothing short of impressive but it had the feeling of a place that is known to be top notch and alows itself to become mediocre. The filet which was $28 no less was no better than W*al Mart which is what another B4 u eat reviewer said and he was absolutely right. I've had better steak at C*hile's. Maybe it was an off day I don't know. The best part of the whole experience is when the valet guy who did not park my car or bring it to me because I had the key and parked it myself told me I was rude and needed to tip him. This was oddly enough in his mind because I was consuming one of his "spots". Whether he was out of line or if I really was consuming one of his "spots", any place that forces you to park valet and expects something for nothing is no place to visit at all. That's exactly what the food was high dollar and lots of show with nothing behind it. I found nothing to warrant a quarter of the price they were asking for their food. C*armelo's and F*ogo de Chao blow this place out of the water.

MY REVIEW: After eating at a Heights restaurant, we decided to have desert elsewhere. We called Brenners and made a reservation at 9:00. There was no problem just having desert and after dinner drinks. Service was good. Manager specifically asked how one of the deserts was as it was new and he was looking for feedback.

MY REVIEW: This is one of the finest restaurants in the city of Houston. The crab cake is the best hands down, my wife had the red snapper and I had the ribeye every thing was done to our order. The service was very good the GM stopped by to chat. We tolds some friends who went this pass week. I will be back.
