MY REVIEW: It's hard to believe this place has any reputation at all. The building is dilapidated, the food mediocre and the service underwhelming. If you find slap-together decor, slanted floors and wobbly chairs and a lack of decent indoor plumbing "charming", this is your place. I thought it was like trying to eat in a haunted house. There was almost no water pressure in the restroom, with barely a trickle of water in the sink for hand washing. I can only hope the kitchen is more modernized. The fish was overcooked and way oversauced. The "Bananas Foster Flambe" was barely cooked and cold bananas served with ice cream. The waitstaff couldn't be troubled to fill water glasses. With all the fine dining available in Houston, why would anyone eat here? I won't waste another evening on it.

MY REVIEW: Overall the resturant was very good and service great. My only problem was I ordered at Ribeye and it came dry and cool. Did not say anything because everything else had been top notch. If and when I come back I probably will not order the Ribeye. Appetizers, salads and deserts were outstanding.

MY REVIEW: The Brownstone was wonderful. So thoughtful and so full of charm... the way a proper restaurant should be. I feel like my grandmother when bragging about it because I commonly use the terms "proper manners" and "respectable staff". Despite beliefs of this place being for a slightly "older crowd" I felt very comfortable in the cozy, yet elegant, atmosphere. I will be returning for years to come.

MY REVIEW: This was my third visit to the Brownstone. My daughter sent us there to celebrate our 56th Wedding Anniversary. The entree was good. However since I saw other Seniors like my husband and myself, the place could use more lighting. I stumbled and fell on our way out of the restaurant because of the layout(It was not due to my age because I had Lasix surgery and 20/20 vision). Prior visits they had a "harpist" which added to the atmosphere of the place.

MY REVIEW: I did not like this place at all. The food was mediocre and the restaurant was dark and musty. The lettuce in my salad was thoroughly washed, which is good, but all the water was still on the lettuce which made for a bland and soggy appetizer. The ambiance was elegant and definitely appealed to an older crowd since most couples were wearing coats and ties. I just didn't like this place, it was depressing.

MY REVIEW: I was disappointed with the entree. I had blackened red snapper, the filet was thin, dry and warm and the vegetables were half cold. The lobster bisque was excellent. The waiter showed us the dissert tray but I did not want to take a chance on trying any. I enjoyed the ambiance and may give it one more chance if I can convince my husband to return.

MY REVIEW: We were somewhat disappointed in our visit to the Brownstone. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar before meeting friends for the "Houston Restaurant Week dinner." The bar was shabby. The seats were too short for the height of the bar. The bar itself had a long white plastic mat on the top. I'm not sure if this was to keep glasses from sliding or to hide the finish underneath. The bartender was friendly though, and invited us to walk around the pool and other dining rooms.
When our friends arrived and we were escorted to our table the experience improved dramatically. The bartender offered to add our tab to our table, which was thoughtful of her. The table was beautifully arranged. The seats were comfortable, and the atmosphere was interesting and elegant. The patrons were generally couples 60 years old with men wearing jackets. The service, food and wine were excellent. Desert was delicious. The service had that perfect mix of promptness without ever seeming to rush. We lingered at our table for hours.
The value for the "Houston restaurant week" special was EXCELLENT. All 4 courses (they included an intermezzo of sorbet that wasn't listed) were elegantly presented and tasted divine.
The valet doesn't do much. If your car is parked in front of the restaurant he just hands you the keys without even so much as opening a door for you.
Overall, I'm glad I went, but probably won't be quick to return.

MY REVIEW: For fine dining in Houston, look no further. The Brownstone offers exquisite food in an elegant atmosphere. Each and every time I have been to this restaurant the food and service get better and better. The waiters are so attentive and extremely curteous. My dining experiences at The Brownstone have always been impeccable and I would HIGHLY reccomend this place to anyone.

MY REVIEW: The food, service, atmosphere and valet parking at The Brownstone were all exceptional. We went on Wednesday, July 24. There were three in our party. We each had a different entree -- salmon, duck and filet mignon. This may have been our first visit to The Brownstone, but definitely will not be our last. This is where one goes to have a dining experience, not to grab a quick meal before going someplace. When you visit, be careful about the deserts. They are sinful -- a wonderful ending to an extraordinary meal.
