MY REVIEW: The food is great, reasonable prices and the margaritas are pretty good. It can get busy after 7 pm on Fridays etc, but overall, I have never had a problem with service. They have happy hour too I believe until 4 pm during the week.

MY REVIEW: With my wife graduating with her master's degree from SHSU, I wanted to plan a nice party for her. About a month ago on a Sunday I got online at Cafe Adobe's website and emailed a request for a call back. I got a call that evening from Patrick Gejewski, the manager.

Although our plans were for a small (about 20) group, Patrick acted as if we were the most important customers he had coming. He asked me to send him details of what I wanted and assured me they would take care of it. I did so, and last Saturday we arrived at the restaurant following the commencement ceremony. As good as his word, Patrick had every detail ready for us, including a specially printed menu with congratulations to my wife on it.

We were too small a group to take the big party room, but he set us up in a corner space and put up a curtain to give us some privacy. We had a server assigned just to us, and she was fantastic -- friendly, courteous, and hard working. We had margaritas, appetizers, and entres, and every bit of it was served promptly and was delicious.

The people there were wonderful -- clearly they get the idea of customer service. I can highly recommend Cafe Adobe in the Woodlands for your next party. Although I live way out on the west side, I will certainly be back.

MY REVIEW: I am a Houston native and have been going to Cafe Adobe for 20+ years and am very disappointed in their recent changes. One of my favorite dishes there is the Adobe Egg Rolls or Southwest Egg Rolls as they are known at other places. In the past year or two they have increased the price from $4.99 to $7.49 and have reduced the size of the dish approximately 25%. In the beginning they served the dish with a lime sauce of some kind that was great but now they just squirt some Ranch dressing in bowl. Aside from the horrible serving of that they served a guacamole that was the consistency of "Malt-o-Meal". Way too runny for guacamole.

It is understandable that the quality of the food changes from cook to cook (it shouldn't but no two people cook the same) but what really has turned me off from ever going there again or using their catering services again is the management and waitstaff's inconsiderate manner and total disconcern with a customer's satisfaction.

Our waiter was asked to take on our table even though all his others were on the other end of the restaurant so you can imagine how slow the service was.

When I asked for a comment card they simply said we don't have them. No one ever asked is there a problem or can I help you or how was your meal? They have probably learned their lesson about asking those kind of questions. Considering their current level of quality it is easy to believe that they have ran out of "complaint cards".

MY REVIEW: We used to be regulars - if bar regulars - but have fallen away from going due to spotty service - more so at the tables than bar - and diminishing quality of food.

On this trip my girlfriend preceded me to the restaurant and was essentially ignored until I arrived. I'd expected to have at least have had drinks and maybe even the food ordered if not yet there.

Terrible service: There seemed to be some issue as to who had our table. No one wanted it. We had to flag down a busboy to finally get us a waiter. Customers at any class of restaurant should NEVER see any drama regarding who their server is supposed to be.

Once we had the attention of a server things were ok - at least from that point of view - but they'd need to be exceptional to make up for the poor start.

We ordered our usual Queso Flameado and Mini-Chimis. The Queso had the taste and smell of propane and the Chimis were cold. The Flameado was so bad that both my girlfriend and I awoke to that same oily/gassy taste in our mouths the following day. It wasn't even worth a fight. We knew this was it.

We'd been favoring C*huy's as of late as they are far fresher and their service is far superior and consistent, but wanted to come back to our old standby favorites. This clinched it. We would be hard pressed to EVER return. A sorry and sad report about an old friend.

MY REVIEW: Who turned the lights out? On our last few evening visits the lights have been so dim we could barely see our friends across the table - and the menu was almost impossible to read in the dark. The waiter informed us it was a manager's idea to "set a mood." Yeah, irritated is a mood. Turn 'em back on!

MY REVIEW: Absolutely wonderful. I recently started returning as a regular to this restaurant. I love the new look!!! New bathrooms which deperately needed an update, Party Room which was lost in the 70's now has a bar, lights that set the mood, also the old booths in the dining room have finally been recovered. WHAT TOOK SO LONG???

The food is incredible with my favorite being a combo of Shrimp and Beef Fajatias. Definetly ther best around. Also we love that the managers get to know the customers while visiting every table. The service is a work in progress...,.seems to get better with each visit. Be prepared to wait on a weekend night. You will also have to search for parking, but it is worth the wait!!

They do need to add some desserts to the menu I would love FLAN. Keep up the good work.

MY REVIEW: We friends all went about 1 pm on a Monday. No wait. Food great and not too much chili powder (as I had noticed in the past). Server very attentive and made sure we had lots of everything--dips, chips, spoons, refills, etc. Parking not a problem if you go the right time of day--otherwise, be prepared to hunt diligently for a spot.

MY REVIEW: I have been a huge fan of Cafe Adobe since moving to Houston over 10 years ago. Anytime friends or family from out of town would come for a visit, I would take them to Cafe Adobe (usually the Westheimer location). I had not been to that location for a while and decided to go there for Saturday lunch in April with some out of town friends that love their Mexican food. The salsa was horrible - it tasted like they had used Pace and mixed it with some leftover salsa from the night before to try to cover the storebought taste. Also, the fajita meat tasted like the premarinated packaged kind you get at the grocery. I was so embarrassed. My favorite Mexican restaurant had let me down.

I'm happy to say that I went back a few days ago (a Saturday lunch) and everything was as it should be. The salsa was fresh and tasted like the kind I fell in love with years ago. I did not have fajita's this time, but I did try the tortilla soup for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! Quite tasty! The service was great. We were greeted immidiately; chips, drinks, food were all served quite promptly. Honestly, I go to Cafe Adobe with the expectation of bad service. I just enjoy the food and drinks so much I just decided that it was worth it. I was with another long time Cafe Adobe customer this time, and we were both pleased by the service.

Keep it up guys! You will continue to be one of my favorite places to eat in town!

MY REVIEW: Me and my husband frequently visit Cafe Adobe everyweek. We meet for drinks after work and love the staff including the bartenders. Of course we come for the margaritas and the food, but the environment is also what keeps us coming back. The staff knows our name and the managment is professional but equally friendly. They do many things in the community as well. If you were unsatisfied in the past maybe you were having a bad day, you should come back and experience what we experience every week and that is great people, great food and a great ambience.

MY REVIEW: We were really impressed, again, with the service and our food. I wanted to leave a comment for cafe adobe because the several times we have eaten there, we have had nothing but great experiences. The margaritas are always as good as they advertise them to be. We eat out tex-mex quite often and their food has always been about the best we've tried. Our last visit was a saturday night and we did have to wait to be seated but that's probably because so many people enjoy eating the food there that they keep going back. Our wait for a Saturday night was no longer than to be expected and the hostesses were nothing but wonderful. The management and wait staff are always pleasant, friendly and helpful. I'm a little suprised by some of the other comments on here. I suppose you can't please everyone. There is always someone who wants to complain about something, but as for my family and I we have had nothing but good experiences at cafe adobe and I actually don't know anyone who has dined there who has not thought the atmosphere, food and staff were anything short of wonderful.

MY REVIEW: My experience at this Cafe Adobe was unlike the others. When we walked in the door the hostess asked me if i would like to sit in smoking or non smoking...and I asked if there were any tables available on the patio, there was a wait. (the wait was well worth it, the patio there is beautiful!) However, being a weekend, the food took a little long to come out, the manager came out to our table and talked to us and explained there were other big parties and he was sorry about the wait and the food would be out shortly. Within about a few minutes the food was out at our table. The food was awesome, the service is great, and the management is wonderful, and it will keep my family and I coming back!

MY REVIEW: My son and I too had a bad experience at this Cafe Adobe. We went on a Wednesday evening when some Woodlands/Conroe wannabe radio station was broadcasting a live sports show from there. The speakers were turned way up, cranking out the watts. With the Mexican masonry motiff, it was impossibly loud. And we were sitting in a room behind the main room!! I complained to the waitress, and got just a shrug of her shoulders. And the food was definitely not worth the annoyance. They won't see my smiling face there again.

MY REVIEW: It was our first time to visit Cafe Adobe and after our experience, it will be our last time to visit. It was after 6:00 in the evening and since the weather was dry and cool, we chose to sit out on the open patio. Our dining experience was ruined when several families (some sort of celebration or family event) allowed their children to run free, playing among the tables and causing general havoc. We brought the issue to the attention of our server but were told that there was nothing she could do about the situation. When the families realized that we had complained, they encouraged their children to continue acting up, eventually upsetting several other diners. When all was said and done, we couldn't finish our meal but in fairness, we paid our tab and then asked to see the manager about the issue. The manager, who was very aware of the entire situation, was rude, didn't allow us to finish our story and basically told us that he was busy, short on staff and didn't have time to deal with unrully children or unhappy customers. We told him we would never return to Cafe Adobe and his response was "suit yourself". Period. Understand that all this transpired with calmness and there were no raised voices or rude loud interactions.

We called the Cafe Adobe corporate office the following week to let them know about our negative experience and about how we were treated by their manager. The corporate representative said it was not typical of a Cafe Adobe manager to act that way and apologized for their manager. To compensate, she offered us a gift card for four people and asked that we return to Cafe Adobe and enjoy a meal on the company. It has been 1 1/2 months and, as expected, that gift card never arrived, thus solidifying our opinion of Cafe Adobe. We won't go there ever again. Period.

MY REVIEW: I have enjoyed Cafe Adobe in the past just because it was a "safe" place to go. The food has been consistant but lately the service has not. We went (party of four) on a Tuesday night, it was not busy at all. No one was at the door to seat us and finally a few minutes later someone showed up not even asking if we wanted to sit outdoors or not. My son had to go get his own kids' menu and our menus were thrown on the table and the hostess just left without any word. Chips were brought to the table but a waiter did not show up for drink orders until a manager finally came around and helped us. The waiter never introduced himself and we only saw him two more times to pick up plates and drop off the bill. Drinks were not refilled and we were never checked on after the main dishes arrived. It just really made me think of going back again since the last few times have not had good service either. Maybe to-go from now on??

MY REVIEW: A few friends and I went on a Monday (like we always do on Mondays) for dinner & drinks. We all arrived about 6:30pm and asked for a table in the middle of the main dining room. There were two empty tables available but the hostess insisted on sitting us in one of the booth-type tables along the side. When we asked for one of the two empty tables in the middle she said that those tables were not available. One of my friends confronted the hostess and then asked to speak to the manager. (During this time another frequent Monday night customer and his entourage came in and they were quickly seated by the General Manager at one of the tables that we requested to sit at).

My friend asked the general manager if Cafe Adobe was now taking reservations – He said no. The GM also said that a majority of your party must be there to be able to be seated. (Our entire party was there and ready to be seated) The other empty table that we would have liked to be seated at was apparently being "held" by another group that is also there on every Monday. The other empty table was being “held” just in case the table next to it has more of their friends arrive – (apparently NOT a majority).

It seems that these two groups get “special treatment” by the general manager.

If you hold or reserve tables for one group then you need to do it for everyone! I would hope that in the future if a customer comes in and is ready to be seated that the manager and his staff seat them at any table they desire. Last I checked the customer always comes first.

MY REVIEW: The quality of the entrées is not what I have come to expect from Café Adobe. I regularly order the enchiladas and beef nachos and my companion orders Taco’s al Carbon. The quality over the last few years has been consistently good to very good. Last night was a total surprise. Not only was our order cold, but it was bland and tasteless. Service was also remarkably bad: we sat for 20 min before we were brought water and chips. I will not go there for dinner again.

MY REVIEW: Cafe Adobe is a convenient place to meet before or after a movie at the Edwards Cinema at Katy Freeway and Silber. In pleasant weather, I'd recommend the upper or lower patio, as one of the rare restaurants with outdoor seating that isn't facing a parking lot or highway! This one overlooks a fountain and broad stone walkways connecting all-pedestrian "streets" in an outdoor "mall." It is nice. The inside is highly decorated,in a fun, Disneyland sort of way, with stars (lights, not paint) in the dark ceiling and buildings painted on the walls. Other separated seating areas are decorated to suggest beach vacations in Mexico.

The entrees are bland, so we never repeated an entree order and stick to appetizers. My son is satisfied with the main courses, although he, too, prefers El Tiempo. This is just where we go when we attend a movie and want to eat right there. However, we can recommend the huge portion of chunky guacamole (with extra ingredients, like onions, jalapenos, and garlic to personalize the taste), the hot salsa with the thin chips, and the shrimp quesadillas.

I wish that Mexican restaurants did a better job of stocking wines appropriate to their food (p-l-e-a-s-e who on earth wants a heavy Kendall Jackson chardonnay with this food?) but, that is a failing of many, not just this place.

Other reviewers have commented on poor service. My experience was weaker when we didn't know what we wanted. My guess is that turn-over is high. Now, we order everything (drinks, appetizers, my son's entree) when the waiter first appears and then have not had a problem.

MY REVIEW: There is something to say about a restaurant when you brave a torential downpour just to satisfy a craving!!! This is one of those restaurants!!! I am not the type of person to leave a review on a website, read them yeah, write one...no! I am tired of all the negative reviews this place is getting. There is a long wait sometimes b/c the food & service is so dang good people!!! The rita's are amazing, the food is always excellent especially the seafood enchiladas and chicken fajitas! The red salsa is to die for, I have even bought it in pints just to have at home. Give this place a try more than once! They will win you over!

MY REVIEW: VERY TASTY!!! I must say I did read the reviews before I ate here...and the last few reviews were very accurate. The food was FANTASTIC (i.e. spicy guacamole dip). Very generous portions.... the margaritas were WONDERFUL.... did not taste too strong or too weak.... they were just right, but once you're done drinkin' one or two.... you will definitely feel the effects of them. I would DEFINITELY eat here again!!!!

MY REVIEW: I LOVE cafe adobe. The food is wonderful (espec. the fajitas, nachos, queso flameado, and pollo fantastico). The margaritas on Westheimer are by far the best. They are not that great in Sugar Land. But the food is good and tastes the same at both of them to me. I do not like the queso at Cafe Adobe though.

However, I do think it is the best mex. food in tex...I cannot believe people like C*huy's or G*uadalahara's food over Cafe Adobe. There is no comparison in their fajitas. Cafe Adobe has the best hands down in Houston.

MY REVIEW: I just want to set the record straight for everyone here. The ONLY Cafe Adobe worth going to is the original on Westheimer. The one on the Katy Freeway is a complete waste of time. The food is disgusting and the margaritas are so-so. I go to the location on Westheimer monthly and it is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant, not just in Houston, but anywhere. The margaritas are out-of-this-world and I haven't had a single thing on the menu that wasn't outstanding (and I've had a lot from that menu). The service can be touch-and-go (I've only had one bad experience but it was corrected by a comped queso) and sometimes there's a wait, but it's definitely worth it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I have taken many people there who have found that it is their favorite Mexican food restaurant as well.

MY REVIEW: Cafe Adobe is the best mexican I have ever tasted. I have been going to the one on Westheimer Rd. since 1993 and have went ever month since then. At that time that was the only one around since then I have visited every other one that they have. The drinks are the BEST, whoever said they were weak must be an alcoholic trust me on this. The food is the best and the fajitas are the best here I will not eat fajitas at any other place but here. I have taken many many friends to this place and all have the same reaction as me, that the food, atomosphere, and drinks are great. One of the best things is when it is warm out to sit out on the patio, espically at this location. My whole family loves it here, my son even wanted to go here for his birthday when he turned 5 so it shows how good the food is here. I really dont know where everyone else would go for Mexican food and one person said Chewy's and that place was NASTY by far. Everyone needs to at least give it a try and quit listening to the negative reviews.
