b4-u-eat.com is an information-rich resource for anyone looking
to dine out in one of Houston's unique venues. Search by area, zip code, cuisine,
or restaurant name to find a review that covers "the good, the bad and the
ugly" of nearly every eatery in town. Over 35,000 restaurant reviews include
information on how often and when the reviewer has visited the restaurant, lists
the date of the posting, and each venue's full contact information and map, including
a website link where applicable. Also available are venue-specific links for outdoor
dining, ethnic foods, daily specials, local farmers' markets, and restaurants
accepting online reservations.
b4-u-eat benefits restaurant owners as well as diners. We've recently
added a new feature that provides free online advertising to Houston restaurants:
complimentary restaurant profiles. Owners can post information on specials, hours
of operation, chef's suggestions and prices. They can also check their own "EAT
report" and see how they are faring compared to other Houston restaurants
in the b4-u-eat database. Interested owners can create a free account by clicking
the "Login" button under the "For Restaurant Owners" area
near the bottom of the navigation bar.
The now extensive b4-u-eat restaurant service has its roots way
back in the years before the Internet, when the bulletin-board craze was hip in
the early 1990s. "Users dialed into the system with 300K and 14.4K modems,"
says Jane Hudson, co-founder of b4-u-eat.com. "It was very popular and most
users told us it was a BBS like no other they'd seen. The Houston Post praised
it in a review that began in a play on our BBS name: 'B4-U-EAT...'. We liked the
name, so we stuck with it."
b4-u-eat.com has certainly grown since then. For those looking to take advantage
of all the site has to offer, the home page section on what's "New in Town,"
includes links, reviews, and venue information. To be on top of the restaurant
scene, check the frequently updated "Coming Soon" section and be first
in line. Also just one click away are listings, reviews, and links to a variety
of information such as restaurant jobs, holiday specials, recent closings, and
catering services.
"When I first discovered b4-u-eat.com, I was astounded at how
useful it was," said Julianna Arnim, a Houston diner who relies on the site
for restaurant picks, "I can limit my search to restaurants just in my area,
or even get more specific, limiting the search to, say, only barbeque restaurants
in the 77063 zip code. The best thing about the site is the community is really
vocal. A lot of sites I used to go to would be empty when you went to the restaurant
review section. On b4-u-eat, even new restaurants have lengthy reviews."
Hudson is pleased with such positive responses. "It's great
for restaurateurs who want to get their name out to potential customers, and it's
a hard-to-beat resource for Houston diners who get tired of going to the same
old places, but aren't sure what else is out there."
Whether diners hail from Houston, are new transfers, or are
simply visiting, on b4-u-eat.com they will find a wealth of information for choosing
just the right place to eat. b4-u-eat.com allows diners to take the guesswork
out of their next culinary adventures by providing a forum for thousands of reviews
for web users to read with ease. From Chinese take-out to four-star dining, b4-u-eat.com
has the scoop on the city's most eclectic, exclusive, and economical restaurants.
The information is tailored, literally, to your taste.
