MOLINA’S CANTINA ANNOUNCES RESTAURANT CLOSING
Popular West University Restaurant Destination Plans to Relocate Near Current Location

Houston – Molina’s Cantina, a family-owned and operated Tex-Mex Restaurant chain headquartered here, announced today that they will not renew their lease at 5227 Buffalo Speedway, located at the northeast corner of Buffalo Speedway and Bissonnet.   The last day of business will be Saturday May 24, 2008.  The Molina family is proactively seeking a new location within the same geographic region and intends to be back in business in the West University area soon. Meanwhile the current site will be cleared for new construction and redeveloped by H-E-B Grocery Co.

“The loyalty that Houstonians have shown us at this location during the past 20 years is what restaurateurs dream of,” said Ricardo Molina who, along with brothers Raul III and Roberto, owns and operates the family restaurant.  “Many of our customers grew up with us, they are like family and we intend to find a new home for them again, sooner than later.”

In the meantime, folks who frequented the Buffalo Speedway restaurant can get their Tex-Mex “fix” at Molina’s newest location, located less than four miles away at 4720 Washington Avenue. Another Molina’s Cantina is located at 7901 Westheimer Road, six miles from the Buffalo Speedway restaurant.

When the Buffalo Speedway location opened in 1988 it was considered one of Houston’s hottest happy hours, with lines often forming out the door.  It has been a popular restaurant destination since.

The company plans to transfer staff, many which have worked for Molina’s in excess of five, 10 or 15 years, to their other two locations or assist in outplacement with similar positions in other restaurants.

To thank their loyal customers, Molina’s will host an “Adios Amigos” farewell week from May 18-24, complete with food and drink specials, as well as commemorative gifts.

“When my grandfather opened his first restaurant in 1941 there were only a handful of Mexican restaurants in town, now there are over a thousand,” said Raul Molina III.  “We’ve been in business 67 years and plan to be in business for a long time to come.” For the latest news and information regarding Molina’s Cantina visit molinasrestaurants.com and subscribe to the company’s e-newsletter.
